  • Make sure to be on time for your Driving Test. If you are late the test cannot be conducted and your fee will be forfeited. Ideally you should be 10 – 15 minutes early.
  •

  • Your Learners Permit (or Provisional Licence) must be valid for your use. It must be up to date and for the category of vehicle you are about to be tested in. First time holders of a Learner Permit must have it for a minimum of 6 months in order to do a driving test.
  •

  • You must have Insurance cover. You must have an up to date valid Insurance disc displayed in the front windscreen.
  •

  • The Vehicle you are about to drive must be taxed. There must be a valid and up to date Tax Disc displayed in the Front Windscreen.
  •

  • If your car is 4 years old or more then it must have a valid NCT Disc.  For Van's you must have an up to date DOE which you need anyway to get a Van Taxed.
  •

  • Your vehicle must have L Plates at the front and back. These are a red L on a white background. Do not cut the white part off otherwise the tester will refuse to bring you out.
  •

  • Make sure all windows are free of cracks or damage. If your front windscreen is cracked the tester may refuse to conduct the test. The windows must not be unduly tinted.
  •

  • Your brake and indicator lights must be working efficiently.
  •

  • The tyres on your vehicle should be in good condition. The minimum tyre thread depth is 1.6mm. This is a legal requirement.
  •

  • The seat belt on the tester's side should be fitted and in good working order.
  •

  • The passenger door on the tester's side should be working properly and, in particular, should be possible to open from the inside as well as the outside.
  •

  • The suspension should not be obviously defective.
  •

  • The handbrake should be in good working order.
  •

  • There should be no leakage, into the vehicle, of exhaust fumes.
  •

  • Where seats are designed to hold head restraints, these restraints must be in place on the day of the test.
  •

  • You must ensure there are no warning lights flashing on your dashboard. The tester may not conduct your test if he/she is not satisfied that your vehicle is in good condition.
  •

  • Vehicles used as taxis or hackneys are not permitted to be used as driving test vehicles unless the appropriate rate of Vehicle Excise Duty has been paid.
  •

Can you pass your test?  You can do anything you set your mind to.  Believe in yourself.  Yes you can.
