New rules for Learners


Latest NewsApril 2011 saw the introduction of new rules in relation to learning to drive and preparing for your driving test.  Any learner who has a learner permit issued on or after 4th April 2011 will have to take 12 driving lessons before they will be allowed to sit a driving test.  Please check out www.rsa.ie/edt for more information. 

The provisional licence has been replaced by a learner permit to emphasise the fact that the holder is learning to drive.
Existing provisional licences will continue in force until their expiry date after which the holder will be issued with a learner permit.  Anyone with a learner permit must be accompanied at all times while driving.

New Test Centre Location
There is a new Test Centre in Wexford Town.  It is located in Killeens in the cul de sac opposite Joyces.  It is right beside Philip Jeffers Ostiopath Centre.  Watch out for the sign on the main road.  The previous Test Centre was located in The Maldron Hotel but that is now closed and so too is the Test Centre in the Industrial Estate.  The only Test Centre for Cars and Trucks in Wexford town now is in Killeens.
 
New Motor Tax Charges
For new cars registered from 1st July 2008, motor tax charges will be determined on the basis of the CO2  emissions level, based on seven CO2 bands. Rates will range from €100 a year for the greenest cars to €2,000 for cars with the highest emissions rating.

Pass Rates and Waiting Times in Wexford

County Wexford has a poor pass rate of 46% which can fluctuate from time.  It shows that a high percentage of test applicants arrive for their test totally unprepared.  If you put the work in and get lessons and practise then you have a good chance of passing your Driving Test.  The national average pass rate is about 57%.

New Theory Test Book
The latest edition of The Theory Test book and CD-ROM is available in shops now.  The most recent edition is the fifth edition from October 2011.  It is important that you prepare and practise for your Theory Test using the most up to date learning material available  The Theory Test has been updated with more relevant questions, all are still multiple choice. A great way to prepare for your theory test is to buy the CD ROM, with this you can do mock tests on your Laptop or PC.
